Where did inactivism come from?

Who birthed this magnificent creature?

Honestly, I have no idea.  I am sure I am not the firt person to ever use this term in this fashion.  However, I am the first person to register the name “inactivist” on WordPress, so that has got to count for something.  So…here is some stuff about me if you are interested:

My name is Ted Rutherford.  I am the founder of an organization called Responsible Men which is dedicated to engaging men in promoting social and environmental justice as they pertain to men’s violence against women.  I am a proud husband and father.  I have a B.F.A. in Scenic Design an M. Ed. in Art and for fun I perform improv comedy with my awesome troupe called Junk.  Currently I am the Youth Outreach Specialist for the Texas Association Against Sexual Assault and I serve on multiple state and local task forces that seek to prevent sexual violence.  Recently I was selected to serve on the Board of Directors for The Cipher: Austin’s Hip Hop Project

If I were an an actual activist, I might look like this…

(if you haven’t done it yet, you have to check out Yearbook Yourself – too much fun!)

Since I am mostly an inactivist, I look more like this…

As you can see, I am just an average guy who would like the world to be a better place to live.  Someone once told me to “be responsible for your own experience”, so that is what I am doing.  So…I am inviting you to be responsible for your own experience  as well.  Millions of tiny paradigm shifts will create massive changes in the world.  Look at schools of bait fish for example.  Individually, they make tiny shifts in their direction based on what they sense is going on around them.  As a group, they appear to be moving, in unison and in agreement, toward their intended destination.  You too can be bait fish…wait…that sounds terrible…uh…you to can affect and inspire change in others by making small changes yourself.  That’s better.
